چکیده

Querying live media streams is a challenging problem that becomes an essential requirement in a growing number of applications. We address the problem of evaluating continuous queries on media streams produced by media sources such as webcams and microphones. The temporal attributes and the order of stream tuples play essential roles in live stream generation and query execution. Furthermore, the temporal constraints and query semantics of related streams provide additional query optimization opportunities. We investigate the modeling issues and introduce the query processing techniques of a live media stream management system (MedSMan), including media capturing, automatic feature generating, declaration and query languages, temporal stream operators and querying algorithms. A prototype is implemented and we present experimental results to show the performance of our prototype using various real-time media experiments.

Video Stream Retrieval of Unseen Queries using Semantic Memory

Retrieval of live, user-broadcast video streams is an under-addressed and increasingly relevant challenge. The on-line nature of the problem requires temporal evaluation and the unforeseeable scope of potential queries motivates an approach which can accommodate arbitrary search queries. To account for the breadth of possible queries, we adopt a no-example approach to query retrieval, which use...

New Data Types and Operations to Support Geo-streams

The volume of real-time streaming data produced by georeferenced sensors and sensor networks is staggeringly large and growing rapidly. Queries on these geo-streams often require tracking spatiotemporal extent (e.g. evolving region) continuously in real time. The notion of real-time monitoring and notification requires support from a database capable of tracking and querying dynamic and transie...

Modeling and Efficiently Processing

Integrating pattern matching functionality over live and archived streams of events with hybrid queries has become very crucial for various complex event processing (CEP) applications including financial market data analysis and RFID-based asset tracking. Hybrid queries allow us to verify current live events, analyze archived events or even make predictions about future event occurrences. Altho...

Continuous Queries over Data Streams - Semantics and Implementation

Recent technological advances have pushed the emergence of a new class of data-intensive applications that require continuous processing over sequences of transient data, called data streams, in near real-time. Examples of such applications range from business activity monitoring and online analysis of sensor data to trend detection in stock ticker data. This work presents a solid and powerful ...

A Temporal Foundation for Continuous Queries over Data Streams

Despite the surge of research in continuous stream processing, there is still a semantical gap. In many cases, continuous queries are formulated in an enriched SQL-like query language without specifying the semantics of such a query precisely enough. To overcome this problem, we present a sound and precisely defined temporal operator algebra over data streams ensuring deterministic query result...
